Frederick Douglas' entry into law enforcement came in 1877 when he was appointed Police Commissioner for the District of Columbia in 1877 and later the same year he was appointed the first Black United State Marshal by President Rutherford B. Hayes- Douglas a run-away slave had been chased down by Deputy U.S. Marshals - his life came full circle.
